Feature Project—C3 Convention Centre Hobart

The C3 Convention Centre is one of Hobart’s most unique venue’s, boasting the ability to cater for events from 10 to 1000 people. With polished concrete floors, internal bridge, floor to ceiling windows, skylights, views of the Rivulet and trees, outdoor lawn areas, high ceilings, free off street parking for 200+ vehicles – this venue is stunning, versatile and modern after being recently completed in 2011.

Omnitek worked with architect Lez Penzes who helped capture a unique feel and utilised the building original heritage as an industrial warehouse building throughout the theme.

A challenging part was dealing with the existing structure where the main auditorium was to be an open space. The original structure contain mid-span portal column support. Omnitek innovation developed a knee braced portal frame arrangement which was sympathetic to the industrial theme requested by the architect. The challenge was further increased by the request from the service engineers Engineering Solutions Tasmania (EST) to install mechanical air handling units.

The external civil works implemented Urban Sensitive Design principals utilising open natural swale drains with absorbing trenches to collected oil residue left from cars. The design aimed to reduce the area of impervious surfaces and the implementation of open drains aided the slow down of surface runoff improving water evaporation and infiltration. The overall results minimised the impact of the redevelopment by reducing the total surface runoff produced by the development.

Jacometti Residence, Blackmans Bay Tasmania —1+2 Architects & Drew Edwards Architect. Responsible for the structural design, documentation and inspection of new residence in Blackmans Bay Tasmania.

Lampton Residence, 1 Ryeland Crt Rose Bay—Mark Linardi Design. Responsible for the civil, hydraulic and structural engineering design, documentation and site inspections.
Unit Development at Summerleas Rd Kingston—Anard Constructions. Responsible for the civil, hydraulics and structural design, documentation and inspections.

Unit Development at Argyle Drive Redwood Retirement Village, Kingston —Anard Constructions. Responsible for the civil, hydraulics and structural design, documentation and inspections.

Commercial

Mill Park Library, Whittlesea — MR Anderson Consulting Engineers Collingwood. Responsible for the structural and civil engineering design and documentation of new library, carpark and associated infrastructure upgrades.

C3 Convention Centre, Hobart—Lez Perez. Responsible for the structural and civil engineering design, documentation & site inspections.

The Mercury Building, Hobart—NewsCorp. Responsible for undertaking structural condition audit and preparation of report and provided advise on desegregation proposal of existing facility.

Institutional

Mount Nelson Primary School Redevelopment— M2Architects, responsible for the structural, hydraulics and civil engineering design, documentation and inspections for the new arts room, Library extension and outdoor play areas.

Waimea Primary School Redevelopment—M2Archiects, responsible for the structural and civil engineering design, documentation and inspection of the new Library, Staff Room and Toilet Block Redevelopment, remedial works and Remediation Works and associated civil works. The project also involved a stormwater runoff analysis and upgrade of outlet structure.

Leticia House Roof Top Recreational Area Shade Structure—Aucland Architecture, responsible for the roof top membrane remedial repairs, and shade structure design, documentation, and inspection.

Local Government

Collinsvale Road, Collinsvale — Glenorchy City Council. Responsible for the design and documentation for the roadside embankment stabilisation.

Barossa Creek Stabilisation Works—Glenorchy City Council. Reposnible for providing advise, engineering design and documentation for the remediation works required for the creek relining.
